Book Review: Olive and the Backstage Ghost by Michelle Schusterman

I love me a fun ghost story–and add an old haunted theater and I’m hooked. In the middle grade novel Olive and the Backstage Ghost you have both! Olive, like her widowed, former diva mother, loves to sing. But when a bad case of stage fright sends her fleeing from an audition for a prestigious children’s theater camp, she finds her way to a beautiful old theater that is full of ghosts and vaudeville performers who are looking for a singer just like her to bring their show to life. But things are not necessarily what they seem, and of course Olive will have to learn this lesson the hard way. I loved the descriptions of the different vaudeville acts–many of which are filled with warmth and humor. If you are looking for spooky, but not too spooky story, you will love this fun and engaging book.
